Trip 1 : Desert tour: Matmata – Ksar Ghilane

The participants will have the opportunity to discover the traditional water harvesting systems in the mountain dry areas (jessour, tabias, cisterns, etc.) and the typical troglodyte housing in Matmata village. Afterwards, they will continue to the large sand sea (great oriental erg) in Ksar Ghilane where they will witness the sun set on the dunes and spend the night in the traditional Bedouin tents.

Trip 2 : Man made oasis tour: Regim Maatoug

It is an example of the greening desert project whereby a desert area has been transformed within 20 years in a living village made of irrigated oasis (2500 ha) and all the necessary socio-cultural infrastructures (school, electricity, drinking water, telephone, health care unit, etc).

Trip3: Post conference tour ( Douz- Tunis)

A post conference trip is proposed for those who want to cross the country from south to north and discover the diversity of the landscape, population and culture. It is a one day bus trip departing from Douz (November 17^th 2008 at 08h00 am) to Tunis (the capital) (20 h00) trough three main historical towns: Gafsa, Sbeitla, and Kairouan. It costs 50 US$ including transport and snacks.
